Takeovers Taking Over

A takeover is a device that we are able to provide to customers to utilize existing security equipment in the home. The takeover will interpret the signal that the existing equipment gives out and will read that information back to you and your Qolsys IQ2 Panel; the brain of your security system. The device will have access to all sensors (door, window, motion, etc.) and notify you with activity through your IQ2 panel or your Alarm.com account or app.

Instead of installing a bunch of equipment, we can take over the existing equipment! Taking over equipment is a more cost effective route, in some cases.

The type of takeover will depend on the type of equipment in the home. Wireless equipment requires a Wireless Takeover; hardwired equipment requires a Hardwired Takeover.

Some homes have already been installed with a Hardwired Systems already built into the home. A Hardwired Takeover can make that “analog” system digital, and you’ll be able to access all of your equipment status and information from your smart devices that can access your Alarm.com account.

Determining if your home is hardwired for security can be tricky; you may need to refer the previous owner or your realtor. Usually there is a security key pad on the wall, or you can check in your master closet or a utility closet for a breaker box-like unit that is packed with wires.

Many homes have had a "wireless" security system installed. The amount of equipment and the compatibility of those devices will determine if you are eligible for a Wireless Takeover.

The Wireless Takeover will decipher and transmit the signals from wireless security devices that are already installed in the home.

In some cases, not all equipment is compatible with the system.

Cameras that you would like to be accessible through your Alarm.com account must be Alarm.com brand. Any other camera brand will require you to have a separate app. Brands other than Alarm.com Cameras will not be directly connected to your security system, but you are still able to receive their notifications from your account or app.

Some Skybell Video Doorbells are compatible with Alarm.com and can be accessed through Alarm.com applications, but only if the Alarm.com software is incorporated into the device.

All equipment is professionally installed, serviced and (if need be) replaced by one of our Superior Technicians!

With American Defense Systems, all equipment that we provide to our customers is warranted through the duration of the contract that our customers agree to and installed by one of our licensed technicians. For the duration of that agreement, you will not have to pay for any equipment that is damaged or faulty. We will send a professional to right the issue, and should your need to move during the contract period, we’ll move with you!
