THE EVOLUTION OF THE DOOR LOCK

September 12, 2019

The invention of the “key & lock” dates all the way back to the ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago. Some of the first locks were comprised of a wooden bolt that secured a door with a slot with several holes on its upper surface. Then they’d attach a device to the door that contained wooden pins which would then drop into the holes and secure the  bolt.

The key that was developed was also wooden and resembled a large toothbrush. The bristles on the key acted as the “pegs” and they matched up with the holes on the locking mechanism. The bristles would match up perfectly, push the pins down, and viola – you’re in!

Fast forward a few thousand years and a few thousand miles…

Smart lock technology allows you to enter in a passcode, unlock the door from a mobile app or the Bluetooth on your phone recognizes that you are arriving and unlocks the door for you. Lock technology has evolved to become smaller, more reliable and made of metal, not over-sized toothbrushes. However, recent advancements with “smart locks” would allow you to ditch the keys forever.

SMART LOCK FUNCTIONALITY: When American Defense Systems installs a smart door lock in your home, you will be able to control the lock (and your entire security system) from the powerful Alarm.com mobile application.

SMART USER CODES: You can FINALLY retire your spare keys but replacing them with four-digit user codes. You can provide these to your friends, family, dog walker, neighbors or contractors that may need access to your home when you are away.

PEACE OF MIND: A smart lock also allows you to track any time visitors may come and go, as well as the ability to delete their codes when they no longer need access.

VOICE CONTROL: You can even lock your home with your voice by talking to your Amazon Echo, or Google Mini.

SCENES & AUTOMATION: When you set up “Scenes” with Alarm.com, you can activate the pre-set Away Scene (for example) and your security system will arm, front door locks and your garage door closes.

For the month of September, American Defense Systems will be giving away a FREE remote door lock when you sign up for a smart home security system. This is a limited time offer, so call today to learn more about protecting and automating your home with American Defense Systems: 877-287-3077
